About Our Dog Bones

Because we butcher whole carcasses on the premises, we have real bones - not the bleached, baked things sold in pet shops. These are fresh raw bones, sold by the kilo at KSh 150, and they are the cheapest thing on our entire counter.

Raw bones give a dog something genuinely useful to do. Gnawing scrapes plaque off teeth and massages the gums, the marrow is nutrient-dense, and the activity keeps a bored dog occupied for an hour in a way no toy manages. Most vets who support raw feeding will point you towards large, raw, weight-bearing bones exactly like these.

Two important safety points. Give bones raw, never cooked - cooking makes bone brittle so it splinters, and splinters are the real hazard. And supervise your dog, especially at first, and take the bone away once it has been worn down small enough to swallow. Ask us for large beef leg bones if you have a big dog, or something smaller for a puppy.

How to Cook Dog Bones

• Feed raw only. Never cook these bones - cooked bone splinters and is dangerous.
• Always supervise, and remove the bone once it is small enough to swallow whole.
• Feed outside or on a washable surface, and refrigerate between sessions.
• Discard after 3-4 days of gnawing, or freeze in portions for later.
• Ask us to match the bone size to your dog - large leg bones for big breeds.
